In Variations, Timelines could contain multiple masterfiles. The Timeliner currently doesn't have this capability, and if it were integrated it would raise design and code issues for both Avalon and the Timeliner.

Note from a former Variations user on the lack of multi-file support
"I doubt this will arise in the multi-CD situation, except for the odd Mahler or Bruckner symphony, but it’s definitely going to be an issue for multiple works in the LP situation. It might be also for some of our old reel-to-reel recordings.
There are plenty of works with cyclic behavior (themes that recur across movements) that do not fit on one side of an LP. If we can’t make timelines across the entire work, we lose the opportunity to draw these correspondences in a timeline situation.
Notwithstanding the desire to have that capability, I do think it is a problem that the current product does not fail gracefully in this import situation."

Is this a user need? It seems dd that one would generate a timeline across multiple masterfiles. I'd recommend closing givenn the design and code issues. If there's a pressing user need, we should evaluate. CC @joncameron
I can check in with former users of the Variations Timeliner. I'm don't believe this is a pressing need, but is something that was available previously.
