There should be a new role defined called "alum" so a trustee can be designated as having been associated with a chapter, but is no longer active.

  • These Alumni should be listed on the chapter page in a separate section below the active trustees
  • For simplicity (for a first pass) we can indicate that alum is mutually exclusive to any other role (if this actually makes things easier)
  • Note: This feature might not make sense before we make it easier to modify existing roles

+1 for it being mutually exclusive. I'm both a Dean (Columbus) and Alumni (Boston). I'm reading through Seven Databases in Seven Weeks now, and keep thinking about how to store things like this in an unstructured way since it isn't something that we're really query/search on, but rather just display when iterating through members on a chapter.

Actually, then your situation would make it not mutually exclusive (or I guess rather, the phrasing is ambiguous). More to the point, a user should be able to be an alum of one chapter as well as an active trustee/dean of another chapter without causing conflict.

Clearly this hasn't been a priority, but I'm struggling a bit with why we would do this, and further divert attention from award recipients to trustees (or former trustees). Does it really matter who used to be a trustee? Maybe if they were some sort of celebrity, but otherwise I have my doubts.

The feeling, in my mind, is that the trustees are part of the network. Forgetting about celebrity status, the growing network of people who are involved with the Awesome Foundation are the people that continue to give it strength and reach. I personally think that recognizing this is powerful.

Ok, I can see this point! I guess I would just want to do it very discreetly, if we did it. The more visible trustees (and alumni) are, the more self-absorbed and self-promotional I think we appear.

I'm not sure what you mean by discreet. The trustees are already on the page, and the only plan (on my part) is to just have a separate section of alumni under the main section of trustees.

Certainly smaller than trustee pictures... maybe even in some collapsible section that is collapsed by default. If not collapsed, I might reduce the size of current trustee pictures (with alumni even smaller) so we are not using any more screen real estate than we are now (even as it is now, I find the focus on trustees disproportionate). I'm just one voice though, and possibly a minority one -- so might be worth taking a mock-up to the mailing list!

+1 on this. DC has created a text list and it's getting long and untenable. Our support network is important to us. The internet is dust. Let's spread a little love to the people who have supported and carried Awesome forward.
