I've noticed it's missing and wanted to try it out.

Hello,
You have to switch to alsa_modular branch. https://github.com/balbuze/volumio-plugins/tree/alsa_modular/plugins%2Fuser_interface
This version should work out of the box. But no nice skins, just basic from peppymeter.
