Newly installed GTR w TFT50 will not stay connected to RPI

I have a brand new GTR w five x 2209 chips, a TFT50 in a hypercube attached to a networked RPI 3+. I can connect to the board using OctoPi as well as Ponterface and get control but lose connection anywhere from a minute to 5 minutes (Randomly) and have to cycle power on the GTR and TFT50 to get control back. All functions work during the time it connects but it seems the more I toss at it , the quicker I lose connection.
