Need tests for stdin

It's easy for intermediate commands to intercept stdin (especially with --restart). We need tests to plugins can read stdin.

Does this mean plugins can't read stdin as of right now? I was trying to have a REPL-like setup where I could call specific functions by entering shorthands assigned to them but that doesn't seem to be working.
