Roadmap: Linux support demand collection / Linux 支持需求收集

This issue tracks demand and requirements for a possible Linux version of MyVoiceTyping.

Current status: MyVoiceTyping is currently focused on macOS. Linux support is not promised for a specific date yet.

Why this needs a separate discussion

MyVoiceTyping is not only an ASR script. The desktop workflow depends on several OS-level pieces:

• global shortcut / push-to-talk behavior;
• microphone permission and audio capture;
• inserting or pasting text into the active input field;
• clipboard / input method behavior;
• desktop environment differences;
• local ASR and post-ASR correction / polishing performance.

On macOS, these pieces are handled through the current app flow. On Linux, the answer may be different for GNOME, KDE, Wayland, X11, Hyprland, etc.

What feedback would be useful

If you want Linux support, please leave a comment with:

1. Distribution: Ubuntu / Debian / Fedora / Arch / NixOS / other
2. Desktop environment or window system: GNOME / KDE / X11 / Wayland / Hyprland / other
3. Expected input behavior:
   • paste into current focused input field;
   • copy result to clipboard only;
   • type via simulated keystrokes;
   • terminal / editor integration only.
4. Preferred ASR engine:
   • SenseVoice;
   • Whisper.cpp;
   • faster-whisper;
   • system dictation;
   • no preference.
5. Main use case:
   • chat replies;
   • documents / notes;
   • AI Coding prompts;
   • issue / PR writing;
   • accessibility;
   • other.
6. Privacy expectation:
   • fully local only;
   • local by default, optional cloud cleanup is acceptable;
   • no strong preference.

Current priority

The current 0→50 stars stage is focused on making the macOS version stable and collecting real feedback on:

• first launch and permissions;
• model download;
• Chinese / Chinese-English speech recognition;
• punctuation and sentence splitting;
• local text polishing;
• whether the result preserves the user's meaning;
• whether the final text can be pasted reliably.

Linux support may become a future roadmap item if there is enough concrete demand and a workable implementation path.
