In the spirit of #31, which of course never got addressed:
Student feedback has frequently asked for more interactivity, and sometimes for exercises, too. Some of the Spring 2026 instructors have developed solutions to address that.
Come up with a weekly presentation, problem, or exercise (Weeks 2-11)
Week 2: from the Console, (1) load the GSS, then (2) describe, then (3) lookfortopic (climate change), then (4) fre the right question, and finally (5) read the docs, and answer the following questions (survey design)
Week 3: same, but one categorical, one continuous, and demo bys x: fre y, tab x, su y, bys x: su y
Week 4: country-level data, compare mean + sd across continents
Week 5: same, and build CIs
Week 6: …
Ideally, assign one per student group (Weeks 3-10 approximately)
Grade the collective effort on them
Shorter do-files, and less complex stuff in the latter ones
One instructor wants to introduce an exam. Perhaps have MCQs in slides instead?
