I'm thinking of taking the follow-up activity (the one that takes command line arguments and parses a .csv file) and implementing that as the badge test.

I may have to use a docker to do the automated command line testing, but there might be an easier way to do that.

Any ideas would be great!

Comments ((Python Part 1)

  • The videos were particularly helpful for this.
  • The activity is very vague, I find it easier to practice when given a specific project.
  • none
  • Both of the videos were good. Maybe a third activity with some matching terms would be good.
  • I feel like a website or list of commands that can be used in Python would be really helpful.
  • Python is so much easier than c++. I am glad that I'm taking the time to understand it
  • This tutorial was very helpful overall.
  • The lecture videos were a little too long, The activity was very good
  • It was a good challenge.
  • Professor Lundrigan seems to know a lot about Python, I might have to go to him for help this summer.
  • I'm already familiar with python, but this was good practice.
  • Add more quiz activities with more relevance
  • Python is cool
  • none
  • Was well explained. If there were more resources for self study or simple projects to practice the language that would be helpful.
  • Good introduction to python. Very helpful for my research.
  • I think the lecture we have for this part is awesome!

Comments (Python Part 2)

  • Great!
  • Great module! The video wasn't too long and the csv parser was just the right difficulty/length and working on an actual application really helped me to practice.
  • I think the video was relatively clear about how to make the parser, however it would be helpful to have a little bit more info on the parser that is wanted. Can it handle multiple column entries or only one? What does verbose mean exactly? If verbose is off, does the data still get printed to the screen? If so, what does verbose effect?
  • I had no idea I could do this. 10/10 pretty cool
  • This was a good review of python from the last lesson.
  • It was fine.
  • Great help, I'm using python all the time
  • Maybe some more direction on the learning activities afterward would be helpful
  • Great exercise in parts of python we'll use frequently: Creating scripts to open and process files. Some research was required to get everything working with the requests extension - A good learning opportunity.
  • I'd say have more activities with relevant examples
  • Very useful.
  • none
  • I liked the additional activity associated with this module. I like that it required me to do more of my own thinking instead of just looking things up on the internet.
  • I think the information that is given is great.

I also want to add tags for different parts of the video and possibly add more interactive quiz questions.

I also want to go through and make a good badge test for this module using the template from the make badge.

I need to go through and match it to the module template.

Report for 22 June 2022:

I was able to start a repository for the badge test.

I added more questions to the module.

I matched the module to Daniel's template.

End of summer report 2022:

  • Ensured that the module follows the template in its structure.
  • Added more quiz questions to the module.
  • Created and added timestamps for the two old videos.
  • Embedded this year's video below the other two videos.
  • Created a repository for the badge test, but did not implement it.
