It would be amazing if we had the option to have a little Highlightr toolbar appear automatically above selected text, upon selecting it.

This way we would not need to right-click and use the context menu, which is a lot of steps.

I am aware that we can also use keyboard shortcuts, but I for one am not someone who keeps tons of shortcuts in their mind, and prefer a more "in your face" convenience.

Thanks for reading!

I agree! That would be a very useful to have the color pallette at hand. 👍
(but as for me, I don't think the popup / popover is a good mechanism, because in this case we cannot separate different types of user behaviour: for example, if we select the text and JUST want to make it bold (or copy; or, as I do permanently when reading - just select and deselect text without purpose 😁) - the appearing of "little Highlightr toolbar" may be a little bit irritative).
As a suggestion:

  • keep the toolbar "sticky" permanently (for example closer to the right border);
  • optionally. in plugin settings: set the padding-top (in px or % оf height of container (.view-content);
  • limit the quantity of showing colors at time (3-5-... ) — and hide the rest of pallette under the small button (to prevent the extremely long toolbar if we choose a lot of colors to set)
  • AND if there will be a button on main toolbar or statusbar - to ON/OFF "highlightr toolbar" — that will be great!
    (so, we can disable / enable highlighting toolbar for types of content we read / work with).
