As a Code for Denver admin, I'd like to have this project automate as much of the onboarding process for new members as possible through a self-guided interface so that I can spend more time and energy focused on other parts of the organization that need support.

Could this card get some more detail? Is this a new user signup or a replacement for the live onboarding?

@rufusasterisk, I updated the card info. Does that make more sense?

Here is a high-level idea:

  • Initially, provide a few highlights and some light information on the organization
  • Then prompt members to sign up to get involved
  • Upon signup, new members are shown some sort of guided wizard where they
    • First, update their profile with skills and interests
    • View requests for help from projects and recommended projects based on their previous input
    • have the ability to peruse projects or view guidelines on how to pitch a new one
    • get directed to specific resources from there based on their selection for how to get involved and contribute

I'm working on creating the onboarding UX/UI. I've done some rough flow charts and a bit of the UX examples over the current designs.

My goal is to flush this out into a prototype after I get some feedback from the group. I'm primarily working in Sketch with material design elements but have also brought in the current layouts from Figma and have them as design libraries as well. The goal is an interface to get from "Sign up" to a flushed out profile.

As skills go I was thinking of modeling after linkedIn. We could modify to a radial select or an auto-fill text select (this is a bit outside of my expertise so whatever code we want to work with I can design for).

For me to move forward I would love to have a conversation with the group about what will work here and what won't. A lot of this is new to me and I want to have a solid plan before I dive into a prototype and cleaner design. This is just a jumping off point.

All feedback welcome!

Here's my first two takes on it. A bit confusing, with some notes to muck it up...

The right page is a 1 screen option, which I think would be the design I'd opt for. Maybe using the modal solution on the left for follow up nags to have users complete their profiles after the initial setup.
