Narrative is exported to MOV only #19
Comments
Thanks for opening this issue. The reason this can happen is that some devices claim to be able to natively create MP4 files, but cannot actually do so. To combat this, the app falls back to MOV if MP4 creation fails. In hindsight it would probably be better to give an error and explain the issue rather than completing the export in an unexpected format. I will probably change this in an upcoming version of the app. The reason I haven't been able to investigate this properly and potentially resolve the problem is because I don't have any devices that actually experience this issue. Could you give me more details about what phone/tablet you're using? The easiest way is via the 'Get in touch' button in the app's settings, which automatically includes device information in the email, it opens for you. |
Application version (please leave this in place): Build 48 (17-04-21 17:13); ONEPLUS A6003, OnePlus/OnePlus6/OnePlus6, v29 (10), arm64-v8a, 1080x2201-m-n |
Thanks for providing this information. I've managed to source a test OnePlus 6 with the same version string as the one you posted, but I cannot replicate this issue. Can you give me a little more information about what you're seeing happen? For example, is there anything about your device that is non-standard? (e.g., rooted phone; non-stock Android etc). Have you set up a particular configuration of the Com-Phone app that is different to the default? What sort of media are you trying to include in the narrative (e.g., images, audio, text, etc) - ideally this would be a SMIL export from the app that you can share so I can investigate further. |
Just an update: this issue was mostly resolved in version 1.6.8, which tries several video export configurations rather than giving up on failure. There is still some work to be done in improving the way that the app tries the different options (hence leaving the issue open), but hopefully you are now able to export mp4 videos successfully. |
version 1.6.6
Even if mp4 is selected the narrative will be exported/shared as MOV in low quality.
