Discussion: Apptainer vs. Singularity

As Singularity is not in place on the HPC resource available to some project partners, we may have to account for that other, but functionally similar tools such as Apptainer (https://apptainer.org) may be preferred. I just saw that Apptainer has replaced Singularity on certain Jülich systems: https://apps.fz-juelich.de/jsc/hps/juwels/container-runtime.html. Probably a non-concern until we know exactly what will be installed though.

Edit: Apptainer is Singularity. It's also in place on TSD, resulting in warnings: DEPRECATED USAGE: Env var SINGULARITY_BIND ..., use APPTAINER_BIND instead.
