Currently as it stands if you click on a user's avatar it will open a side menu as well as the chat with them while if you just click outside the avatar area such as on their name it will only open the chat. My feeling is the side menu should require a right click and its own menu option as it's very likely you will click the avatar by accident when switching between chats and then have to deal with the unwanted side menu popping out before you can actually read the content fully.
