Turning on satellite view makes map freeze and controls disappear momentarily

When you turn on satellite view in the Edit Trip Patterns view, the map freezes and all of the controls disappear momentarily. It's quite fast on my machine/with my 1Gbps network connection, but evidently for some users it can be quite slow (actually the user who reported this did not see the controls reappear at all, although I'm not sure how long they waited).
