Instantiate the IR class globally

Hello,

How to instantiate an AC object globally, and then use the appropriate class IRFujitsuAC / IRDaikinESP / etc / whatever, based on a config option?
Something like:

int irLED = 4;
Generic ac; // accessible from everywhere

void setup() {
// . . . load config class
if (cfg.ACType == 1) {
ac.LoadAC(IRDaikinESP, irLED);
} else {
ac.LoadAC(IRFujitsuAC, irLED);
}
ac.begin();
}

IRac ac(); needs a PIN when initialized, the pin is also configurable...

Then use a pointer to it, and then instantiate a new one whenever you want to change the GPIO.

I think I've figured it out..
IRac *ac;
int irPIN = 4;
setup() {
ac = new IRac(irPIN);
ac->next.protocol = decode_type_t::FUJITSU_AC;

Okay.. with an instantiated IRac class ... how can I call the "normal" functions that exist in, for example IRFujitsuAC ?
I've tried playing with the .next parameters but... mostly it spits garbage codes instead of actual modes / degrees / etc.

You don't have direct access to the IRFujitsuAC class via the IRac class. If you want protocol/model specific functions, you will need to use the class directly.

Can you elaborate on this please? e.g. Examples and data would be helpful.
As lots of people use this successfully (e.g. IRMQTTServer, Tasmota EasyESP etc) you might want to consider that you're doing something wrong.
