Animated images don't pop out

Describe the bug:
Where clicking on pictures and videos should pop them out for proper viewing, gifs will do nothing on click. May be related to whether the gif has finished loading or not.
Also, although I say gif, I'm not 100% certain whether it's them, webms, both, or something else entirely.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Click on a gif

Expected behavior
Image viewer should appear and load full-size gif and play it.

Environment

• OS: Manjaro 5.9.11-3
• Version: 21.1.1 (Mayu), internal 22.0.1
• Your instance: openweb.social (now shut down, but I believe it happened there while it was open), mastodon.linuxbox.ninja, social.quodverum.com, freespeechextremist.com, pawoo.net (though I'm not sure I've seen it on this one yet; at the very least I haven't seen it work)

I think it cannot. Mastodon converts animated GIFs to MP4 and shows us as video...

Update on this, it definitely works on at least one instance; I've had cases where something only works on certain instances. FSE is Pleroma, I wonder if that makes the difference (it's definitely one that doesn't work where pawoo does). I think my original list of affected instances was way off.
