“boQwI’ pasted” banner

All of a sudden, when I type anything into boQwI’ on my iPhone, a banner appears at the top (covering the field I’m typing into) that reads “boQwI’ pasted from X”, where X is the name of my iMac. This banner disappears after about 3 seconds, but it pops up after each keystroke. I have iOS 14.4. I can’t say whether the problem started right after the update because I mostly use boQwI’ on my iPad (also 14.4) which doesn’t have the banner problem. I did a little googling, and the “pasted” banner seems to be something instituted in 14.4 and there is no way to turn it off. But apparently there’s something app developers can do to prevent this. (I don’t know if that’s accurate.). I’m hoping you might have some insight into this and can figure out a way to solve the problem (or direct me to a place where I can learn to solve it myself). The problem disappeared a little while ago. But I’ve updated to iOS 14.5, and now it’s back. The message, which pops up on every keystroke, says “boQwI’ pasted from X” where X is whatever app I just used involving the clipboard. Any ideas? Thanks.

The banner is a new security feature in iOS, to let users know when apps access the clipboard. This was being activated by Flutter (the application framework that the iOS version of boQwI' is built on top of), as Flutter was accessing the clipboard to determine whether it contained something that could be pasted into an input field. Flutter used this information to decide whether to display a “paste” icon button.

This issue has been worked around in upstream Flutter by disabling the contextual paste icon for iOS: flutter/flutter#60145 - I tried building boQwI' against the latest Flutter version a while ago, but I was still able to reproduce the issue. I suspect that one of the Dart libraries I’m using in this project is accessing the keyboard for some reason. I didn’t find any obvious candidates through code inspection, and haven’t had a chance to isolate it just yet.

As for why this appears to reproduce sporadically, it will only happen if the clipboard contains something. There will be no banner of the clipboard is empty.
