The explanation of the registered braille codes is currently limited to one short string, derived from the "index-name" metadata of the corresponding Liblouis translation tables. For example:

  • braille code: NABCC no-grade comp8
  • index-name metadata of corresponding Liblouis table: "English, U.S., computer, NABCC"

(Note that the purpose of the index-name metadata is to be used within a table selection form, e.g. a dropdown list. The strings are brief and make for a clear list when sorted alphabetically.)

It would be good if we could use a more descriptive string, and possibly add more metadata. For example:

NABCC no-grade comp8
North American Braille Computer Code
Locale:
  • en-US
8-dot system
Authority: ICEB
Related codes:
  • CBC 6dot no-grade comp6 (English 6-dot computer braille as used in the U.S.)
  • CBC 8dot no-grade comp8 (English 8-dot computer braille as used in the U.S.)
  • CBC no-grade comp8 (English computer braille as used in Canada)
  • SEB no-grade comp8 (English computer braille as used in the U.K.)
