FlashPatch is not the problem here, it's Windows, but it's intended behaviour. The clue of how to solve the problem is in the first image with the c:\windows folder and where it says access denied. Because the file was inside the c:\windows folder, Windows has given the file limited permissions, so software running on windows cannot modify or overwrite the file. The permissions on the file need to be changed.

Right click on the file then go to properties, then click the security tab. You should see a window that looks like this.

changing permissions on hosts file

  1. Click the edit button
  2. In the new window that appears, click your username that you use to login to windows. If you can't see your username, instead click users
  3. Give the file extra permissions by ticking boxes in the allow column, like modify and write.
  4. Click OK to save the changes to the file, which will update the permissions
  5. Click OK on the remaining window to close the properties window

Now you should be able to patch the file!

That installer only works for Windows 7 and below. Do you have one that works for Windows 8 and above?

hmm, actually I do not, did it ever exist? (I thought flash for ActiveX came with windows updates after windows 8.1) (does it work if you run it under compatibility mode)

now you scared me, what about flash dlls, would windows 7 ones work on windows 8 or I have to dig windows 8.1 pc with latest flash installed and backup the dlls 😢

maybe if we find the harman installer and then replace the dll
According to this document it should exist
Harman_PackagedBrowser_User_Guide_v3_0.pdf

Maybe if someone applies for trial version just to get the installer

You can even try this
