Will your Rtree automatically handle

• pruning by envelopes
• intersection / contains (i.e. filtered cross join)

automatically, or should the user code perform the second task manually?
I would like to handle Multipolygons from JTS and am unsure if implementing my own geometry is better or if simply adding the envelope as a rectangle and then manually checking for intersection.
