We need benchmarks, scaling with network size and amount of nodes.

Speed of reading/writing placement/connectivity data.
Amount of MPI locking operations (time to obtain read-lock, time spent waiting in total).
What's faster? Resizing or rewriting?
What's faster? More siblings or deeper structure?
