Loading (kinda) large STAC Geoparquet causes Firefox/my computer to lag

Seems to make my whole system lock up! It's only <9,000 items, but somehow, consumes a bunch of UI render time.

I did a bit of investigation today, and the blame may be with deck.gl, specifically filled polygons. I'm not sure yet what the correct mitigation is (fill is useful until it's not).

Nope, I was wrong, I un-filled the polygons and it still blew up:

It's not that many items, and I checked memory usage and it was at in expected range (~100MB, which about is the same for https://developmentseed.org/stac-map/?href=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/developmentseed/labs-375-stac-geoparquet-backend/refs/heads/main/data/naip.parquet which is a similar number of items), so it's most likelyto be either deck.gl weirdness.

I'll keep digging, but I'm deck.gl dumb so it might take a bit.
