I assume that's because OpenWork for Windows is now an annual subscription Mac and Linux Desktop is still free.

Yep, that's the thing. I discovered it today. So that "free forever" is not for Windows users. It's not clear why this is changed and what are the benefits for the end user.
I'm good to pay if something is clearly better that the free version, but for now I'll rely on the WSL installation.
