Booking Integration for Events Plugin

Features that need to be added:

Booking feature

• People would be able to book/register for events with personal details
• The personal details need to be customisable from the event interface
• These can be: first name, last name, email, phone number, anything else?
• Users can ‘unregister’ from events

Booking slots

• Events with booking feature can enable slots – an option that would limit the amount of people that can register to the event
• This can be enabled or disabled on each individual event
• When user register, slots would be occupied – when users ‘unregister’, the slots would be freed

Multi-booking functionality

• Toggle in the admin for activating this
• People can book themselves for the event, or can book several other people
• Specific limit to how many people can someone book
  • Ex. 0 for any amount of bookings
  • 5 for each booking having a maximum of 5 persons (the person filing the forms, and 4 additional)
• When multi booking, multiple slots are occupied
• After booking, people can unregister individually

Notifications

• Notification on registration
• Event reminders
• Notification on unregistering
• Wishlist? Notification for new availability

Let me add some architectural considerations.

Preface: The current frontend is based on a very old bootstrap-3 integration by timely, which is challenging, technically outdated and it is planed to be replaced by a react frontend (#2 ).

Thus I would recommend something like the following

• Make things independent and REST/React based. E.g. a Block using the Wordpress provided block api and UI elements. Maybe there are available Plugins allowing to produce a flexible data structure as you described above? Especially as you want to have a flexible "customisable" UI for the user input.
• It might be rather easy to add a block for booking on event page or even as a popup/overlay in list contexts.
• So we would have a data<->Event-id connection. But it might require to include repeating events which would be a challenge to consider.
• Booking Slots: I know that in react-bigcal there are actions to act on individual event clicks
• Notifications: Are a special challenge as sending emails is always. It should be done in a way that supports the standard Wordpress mail mechanisms, so plugins like send-over-smtp etc can be used.
• When sending emails/doing signup we will also need some (maybe event-individual (?) Letter/AGB confirmation, e-mail verification. you may want to subscribe registered users to WP in order to allow future interactions like "unregister from events", sending reminders etc.
• On the backend side: We backend pages based on AdminPageAbstract. Current settings UI also rely on bootstrap-3 and is supposed to be replaced on the long run. So I would suggest to build admin UI also based on react, adding new pages to the backend UI.
