Thanks for tackling our second-favorite database Excel head on!

I haven't been able to read *.xls files via the spatial extension--is this not a supported driver in how y'all have to vendorize GDAL, even though XLS is supported when built with libfreexl.

Hello! Thanks for opening this issue!
I don't have any plans to implement this myself, and there seems to be enough issues just getting normal xlsx files to fit into the SQL data model, so unfortunately there's no timeline.
