Users are experiencing issues when merging main into a branch where the lockfile has been modified.

Lockfile is long and difficult to navigate - use an editor like atom?
Sometimes packages become corrupt after lockfile merge
Generally when to commit changes to lockfile? Should I be watching the lockfile.
