For the next spin enabling the PCPI would be handy for extending the RV32 instruction set. I'm not sure if this is possible given the number of pins required.

Not sure what is meant by 'number of pins'. The pcpi signals would be made available to the user project, not physical pins.

"Pins" means hard IP pins. I'm not a professional ASIC guy, so my jargon may be off.
