From skimming through the git history and this repo, it looks like TryExec support was already considered by enkore (although this has happened before I've joined this project). The very first issue of this repository is dedicated to TryExec: #1
Closing as wontfix, nobody uses this anyway.
I kinda agree with enkore, I certainly don't use TryExec. But it wouldn't be too hard to implement and it would improve conformance to the spec.
I don't plan to work on this in the near future because of lack of interest from me and (presumably) j4-dmenu-desktop users.
If you, the one reading this issue, would find handling of TryExec in j4-dmenu-desktop useful, please comment on this issue. This will show me that there is interest in this feature.
