Windows System Crash After Following Ente Auth Certificate Instructions #8349

@prog98

Description

@prog98

version of ente auth : 4.4.12 + 521

requests the same problematic certificate installation during login:

Following the instructions provided by Ente Auth software to run these commands:

certutil -generateSSTFromWU roots.sst
certutil -addstore -f ROOT roots.sst
del roots.sst

results in severe system instability on Windows. After executing these commands, I encounter the following critical error on every reboot and shutdown:

Stop code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED (0x7E)
What failed: ACPI.sys

Request:
Please provide alternative installation methods for Ente Auth that don't require modifying system root certificates, as the current instructions are causing severe Windows instability and hardware-related driver failures (ACPI.sys).

Additionally, I'm experiencing a separate but possibly related issue where my computer completely shuts down instead of entering sleep mode when I put it to sleep. I'm not entirely sure if this is directly caused by the certificate commands or if it's due to other Windows settings I modified around the same time.

Additional Context:
I suspect the certificate modification is interfering with Secure Boot and ACPI power management components. The ACPI.sys BSOD suggests hardware/power management conflicts that began immediately after running these commands.

System Information:

Windows Version: Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Device: HP prodesk 600 g1 sff

BIOS Version: L01 v02.21

Secure Boot: Enabled

I have since downgraded my operating system from Windows 11 Pro 25H2 to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC in an attempt to resolve the system instability caused by the certificate commands. However, the Ente Auth application still requests the same problematic certificate installation during login:
