I have tried several approaches to this, I have tried the Customize Toolbar plugin, and editing the CustomizeToolbar.btn, but no luck..

There has to be a fast way then going thru the plugins menu.. is there a shortcut key to open and close the SnippetDock as needed?

Please advise.

You can modify Plugin commands for Notepad++ by going to Settings -> Shortcut Mapper -> Plugin commands.

A hotkey pair can then be set for "Toggle On/off SnippetDock", among other FingerText commands (for example, I tend to use Alt+. because Alt+/ is the default for "Show Snippet Insertion Dialog").

I'm also looking at adding settings to the Notepad++ context menu, so might even create a pull request for code to add it at install, if anyone else would be interested.
