Windows Defender flags version.dll #61
Comments
Same here, it JUST started happening, figure it out yet? |
your two files are infected with viruses, someone infected them |
lovely was always functionally a trojan. getting flagged is just a matter of AVs catching up. if you're paranoid you can read through the source code, then build the .dll from the source code yourself |
doesnt complain on v0.5.0-beta4. but does on later versions. im on win11 btw.
... this issue is repeatable from the github releases directly. the "somebody" was the devs. im sure it isnt actually malicious, but I can't even download the later versions without win defender deleting it. |
any updates here? has anyone actually checked the code? |
Anyone can check the code, given it's open source. Lovely is just as much not malware as it's always been; it's just that antivirus filters have been going hard on it. There's unfortunately not much we can do about it. It has been documented over on Steamodded's wiki: https://github.com/Steamopollys/Steamodded/wiki/01.-Getting-started#about-anti-virus-issues |
0.5.0-beta4 also gets flagged, but less so for some reason |
Had lovely v0.5.0-beta6 on my windows 10. When I first launched, windows defender made a warning as "potentially undesirable, low warning" but I clicked on "ignore this file". This morning it now said it was "high risk" and just quarantined/deleted it.
