Delegate Mission Request Summary: Produce and distribute high-quality educational resources to attract and support application developers on Optimism, fostering a robust and innovative developer community.

S6 Intent : Intent 3A: Grow Application Developers on the Superchain

Proposing Delegate/Citizen: Dan Singjoy / @JRocki stated that he'd like to sponsor this Mission Request with 50k OP budget, as you can see in this post.

Total grant amount: 50k OP

Should this Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple applicants: Multiple

How will this Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

This Mission Request will help grow application developers on the Superchain by contributing to the following:

  1. Skill Development and Knowledge Expansion: By providing educational resources, developers will gain a deeper understanding of the Optimism’s tools and best practices. This knowledge will enable them to create more valuable applications on the Superchain.
  2. Lowering Barriers to Entry: Educational materials can simplify the learning curve for new developers. Step-by-step guides, tutorials, and comprehensive documentation will make it easier for newcomers to start building on Optimism.
  3. Community Building: Offering resources such as webinars, workshops, and interactive courses will foster a sense of community among developers. This can lead to increased collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship opportunities within the Optimism ecosystem.
  4. Encouraging Innovation: Educational initiatives can inspire developers by showcasing the potential of the Optimism and highlighting successful projects. This motivation can lead to more creative and diverse applications being developed, further enriching the ecosystem.
  5. Supporting Continuous Learning: Providing a continuous stream of updated educational content ensures that developers remain current with the latest features and updates on Optimism. This ongoing support helps maintain a dynamic and progressive developer community.
  6. Increasing Retention Rates: Well-structured educational resources can improve developer satisfaction and retention by providing the necessary support to overcome challenges and achieve their development goals efficiently.

By addressing these aspects, the mission request for creating educational resources will directly contribute to achieving the Intent to grow the community of application developers on the OP Mainnet.

To execute this Mission Request, the following responsibilities and expected deliverables are required:

  1. Content Development:
  • Develop comprehensive educational materials including tutorials, guides, and documentation for building on Optimism.
  1. Optimism Integration:
  • Implement a system for onchain interactions, such as issuing attestations with EAS (Ethereum Attestation Service), onchain quizzes, or claimable NFTs to incentivize participation, reinforce learning, and track progress.
  1. Community Engagement:
  • Organize interactive courses, workshops, or related systems to foster community interaction and collaboration. This may include opportunities for mentorship and support through community forums and live sessions.
  1. Measurement and Improvement:

By fulfilling these responsibilities and delivering these components, the mission will effectively grow the community of application developers on the Superchain.

How should governance participants measure impact upon completion of this Mission?

Milestones:

Governance participants should measure impact upon completion of this Mission through the following milestones:

  1. Milestone 1: Planning and Preparation (Month 1-2)
  • Define mission objectives and create a detailed project plan. Develop initial educational content and establish the delivery platform.
  1. Milestone 2: Initial Execution and Engagement (Month 3)
  • Launch the first set of educational resources and opportunities for community engagement. Gather participant feedback and refine initiatives.
  1. Milestone 3: Evaluation and Iteration (6-Month Review)
  • Assess the progress and effectiveness of educational initiatives. Report interim results to governance participants.
  1. Milestone 4: Comprehensive Review and Future Planning (1-Year Review)
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the mission’s impact. Analyze outcomes and prepare a detailed report of the initiative’s effectiveness.

These milestones provide clear checkpoints to measure progress and ensure the mission’s success in growing the community of application developers on the Superchain.

Metrics:

Governance participants should measure impact upon completion of this Mission using the following metrics:

  1. Developer Participation:
  • Number of developers enrolled in courses and engaging with educational resources.
  • Growth in active developers on Optimism.
  1. Onchain Transactions:
  • Number of onchain interactions (EAS attestations, claimable NFTs) during educational
  • Number and quality of onchain transactions on contracts deployed by students or alumni
  1. Retro Funding and Mission Involvement:
  • Number of participants in educational program who successfully apply for Retro Funding initiatives or missions.
  1. Feedback and Improvement:
  • Participant feedback on educational resources via surveys.
  1. Retention Metrics and Outcomes:
  • Long-term retention and activity levels of participating developers.
  • Number and quality of new applications developed by participants in the educational programs.

These metrics will help gauge the mission’s effectiveness in growing the application developer community on the Superchain.

Impact:

Governance participants should measure impact upon completion of this Mission using the following performance-focused metrics:

  1. Developer Growth and Engagement: Increase in active developers on Optimism and developer retention rates over time.
  2. Quality and Quantity of Projects: Number and quality of new applications developed.
  3. Onchain Activity: Volume of onchain interactions (EAS attestations, claimable NFTs, etc.)
  4. Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Feedback on educational experience from students or alumni’s.

These metrics will help assess the mission’s impact and performance for future Retro Funding evaluations.

Has anyone other than the proposer contributed to this Mission Request?

I received helpful feedback about a similar Mission idea at the Grants Council Office Hours last Season and several Optimism Fractal community members have provided inspiration for this Mission Request over the past months.

Which metric will the success of this Mission Request be evaluated against?

The North star metric against which this Mission Request should be evaluated is # of transactions emitting event logs, as it tracks the aggregated onchain activity that this program facilitates. This metric was suggested by the Foundation and approved by the Grants Council.
