Unable to open or save file on ZFS volume using Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Opening files from ZFS volume using Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 results in 
'file not found' message.
2. Saving files to ZFS volume from Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 results in 
'cannot access the file' message.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
