I see some stacktraces in the log, but I'm not sure if any are specifically related to opening from the start menu.

Can you also clarify if you're referring to a shortcut pinned by Files?

I suppose checking the log file and locating the most recent stack trace. I noticed a couple errors in the log file, but nothing stood out regarding the issue you mentioned.
