Unable to upgrade .wixproj - "Value does not fall in expected range"

I am attempting to upgrade an old WiX project from toolset v3 to the latest version and am getting an error message when doing so.

HeatWave Version:

• 1.0.5

Visual Studio Version:

• Visual Studio 2022 - Professional Edition 17.13.4

.NET Framework Version: 

• 4.8.09037

Steps:

• Open project
• select my .wixproj file
• in Visual Studio open Project > Upgrade to Latest WiX version
• Error message appears "Value Does not fall within the expected range"

There is no further information provided in my console output.

Is anyone able to help me dig into this a bit further? I feel if I was able to find some more detailed error logs somewhere I could make some forward progress, however I have nothing to go off of at this time aside from the provided error message.

Trouble shooting steps taken:

• Downgraded Heatwave to 1.01
• Downgraded Visual Studio to 14.9

We cannot reproduce the problem with the .wixproj example you provided. However, a bug could exist while processing the .wxs code or even the packages.config. Can you share the other files in your project so we can try to reproduce the issue?
