I just noticed that when I run a game from my non-OS drive, the net speed output seems to be affected. Resetting unity doesn't seem to fix the issue. Restarting the PC might fix it but I really want to know what bug is triggering this behavior.
Games installed on OS drive also run on internet so I can't test it Also noticed it when verifying a 10GB .mkv on Transmission
Are you running Ubuntu 16.04 is a single core virtual machine? If yes, then all processing will be passing through that same virtual core - that will affect the results.
If you are using a multicore machine then yes more likely that psutils.net_io_counters is being affected by some of the similar functions that deal with disk io.
