When using preferences from the system monitor indicator, and adding an additional string {cputemp} the budgie panel icon appears in plank, as shown in the screenshot.
Fresh install of Ubuntu Budgie 17.10 on my Dell LX502, opening the preferences also results in Budgie Panel appearing in Plank.

Opening this issue as requested on IRC.
When using preferences from the system monitor indicator, and adding an additional string {cputemp} the budgie panel icon appears in plank, as shown in the screenshot.
