Be able to create a custom page status

for example a blog you could create a "featured" page status bucket

This is not easily possible. Drafts are saved in a separate _drafts folder, unlisted pages and listed pages are differentiated by the sorting number. Adding a fourth status would require it to be saved somewhere.

Couldn't there be additional folders like _mystatus?
Or custom prefixes?
