Content for the “about” sections for the typeface, and for the designers

Family info should be a minimum of 100-500 words, 1000 words preferred. Should include:

  • Font family name
  • One or two key descriptor(s) (e.g. variable, minimal, grotesque, etc)
  • Why it was created/what it’s designed to do
  • Notable characteristics and features
  • Anything extra you want people to know
  • Scripts (e.g. Latin, Cyrillic, etc)

Designers info

  • about 100 words is ideal (200-1000 characters allowed)
  • written in the third person
  • Designer’s name and location
  • Short bio
  • Notable projects
  • One or two links to project(s), website and/or social media. Links are referenced as “Twitter”, “Instagram” "Project Name" "Designer Name website" etcetera, not by linking the name.
  • written in English, names in Latin script but can have any diacritics needed

example:

Greg Gazdowicz (b. 1988) hails from the suburbs of Gaithersburg, Maryland. He studied graphic design at the Maryland Institute College of Art, then completed the Type@Cooper Extended program in 2014, months after joining the design staff of Commercial Type. Greg has designed custom typefaces for Mailchimp, La Republica, Google, and New York magazine, and has released several families through Commercial Type, including Robinson and the ambitious Terza family.

Thomas Phinney bio:
Thomas Phinney was born in the USA, grew up in Canada, and has spend most of his adult life on what he calls the “left coast” of the US—since 2008 in Portland, Oregon. He has an MS in typography and design from RIT, an MBA from Berkeley, and four patents. He spent over a decade at Adobe, as well as stints at Extensis and as CEO of FontLab. He has designed typefaces for Adobe (Hypatia Sans) as well as Google (Science Gothic), as well as doing font production for Google’s Material Symbols and other font projects. Via Font Detective LLC, Phinney is also the world’s only consulting font detective, doing forensic typography around issues such as forged documents using fonts that did not yet exist, and determining whether documents meet point size requirements.

Brandon Buerkle grew up in Colorado, USA, and has lived his entire adult life in a small town outside Portland, Oregon, USA. He has a BA in studio art and a BA in graphic design, and spent well over a decade practicing graphic design while trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. He now operates as a small foundry, Society of Fonts, creating typefaces he hopes will make the world just a little better. He’s designed type for Google and for the unwashed masses.

@tphinney here is a belated bio:

With over 15 years in type design, he has created notable type families such as Basil, for which he received an award in the Cyrillic Category at GRANSHAN 2014, and co-authored Bolyar for FontMaker, which has now become a staple in the package and labeling industry. Vassil has collaborated on major projects such as Science Gothic and Material Symbols for Google. His approach is characterized by a blend of creativity and technical proficiency. Skilled in type design, engineering and workflow automation, he often develops his own tools helping him enhance the design process.
