Why?
SSHFS is roughly as fast as SMB, but it is more secure. Also I don't think that we only live inside a WAN (intranet), we live inside a LAN (internet). This is where SSH (SSHFS) shines. To protect users from going outside the LAN you need to have a VPN, which makes everything more complex and not that very reliable.
Why not?
SMB is the de-facto file sharing system inside Windows. You can mount a SSH file share but you need to install a program.
That is why I ask this question. I think that I want to switch back to SSH with SSHFS. In the past I encountered problems with SSHFS, this is why I went to use Samba but I think that back then I was not as experienced as I am now.
