First Comment (Maker's Comment)

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I built A11yKit because every accessibility tool I found wanted to upload my HTML to their server. As a developer who cares about both privacy and accessibility, that felt wrong.

What's included:

  • 🔍 URL Scanner — scan any website for WCAG 2.2 violations (axe-core powered)
  • 🎨 Contrast Checker — WCAG AA/AAA + APCA scoring with color suggestions
  • 🌈 Color Blind Simulator — 8 types, severity slider, Daltonize correction
  • 🏷️ ARIA Generator — 20+ patterns with live HTML/JSX preview
  • ✅ WCAG 2.2 Checklist — interactive, filterable, with progress tracking
  • 📄 Accessibility Statement Generator — EAA-compliant templates, AI-powered
  • 🖼️ AI Alt Text Generator — batch processing, multi-language
    • 8 more tools

Why it's different:

  • 100% client-side — your data never leaves your browser
  • No accounts, no signup, no tracking
  • PWA — works offline after first load
  • Open source

Bonus: We also scanned 52 of the world's top websites for WCAG 2.2 compliance and published the results → https://a11ykit.site/accessibility-report

Spoiler: 70 violations found. WebMD had 7. Zoom had 6. Only 18 sites passed clean.

Would love your feedback! 🙏

Title

Show HN: 15 free accessibility tools, 100% client-side, no data upload

Body

I built a collection of 15 accessibility tools that all run entirely in the browser — no server-side processing, no data upload, no accounts.

Tools include:

  • URL scanner (axe-core powered, scans any public URL)
  • Color contrast checker (WCAG AA/AAA + APCA)
  • Color blind simulator (8 types + Daltonize)
  • ARIA role/attribute generator (20+ patterns)
  • WCAG 2.2 compliance checklist
  • Accessibility statement generator (EAA-compliant)
  • AI alt text generator (uses your own OpenAI key)
  • HTML scanner, heading analyzer, form label checker, link text checker, focus order checker, alt text checker, PDF checker, accessibility monitor

As part of the launch, I also ran axe-core WCAG 2.2 scans against 52 of the world's top websites and published the results[1]. Some findings:

  • 70 total violations across 48 successfully scanned sites
  • 95.7% were critical or serious severity
  • Most common: color-contrast (9 sites), missing alt text (6 sites), empty link names (6 sites)
  • Worst offenders: WebMD (7), Zoom (6), AliExpress (5), Spotify (5)
  • 18 sites passed with zero violations (Google, Wikipedia, BBC, Microsoft, GitHub, Stripe, etc.)

Everything is open source and runs client-side. The scan report is at https://a11ykit.site/accessibility-report

[1] Automated tools catch ~30-40% of WCAG issues, so a clean scan doesn't mean a site is fully accessible. But it's a useful baseline.

Title: I built 15 free accessibility tools because every other one uploads your data

Body:

I got tired of accessibility tools that require you to paste your HTML into a server or upload your files. So I built A11yKit — 15 tools that run 100% in your browser.

No accounts, no tracking, no data leaving your device. PWA so it works offline too.

Tools:

  • URL Scanner (axe-core, scans any public URL)
  • Contrast Checker (WCAG + APCA)
  • Color Blind Simulator (8 types + Daltonize)
  • ARIA Generator (20+ patterns)
  • WCAG 2.2 Checklist
  • Accessibility Statement Generator
  • AI Alt Text Generator
    • 8 more

I also scanned 52 of the world's most visited websites for WCAG 2.2 compliance and published the full results. 70 violations found — WebMD had 7, Zoom had 6. 18 sites passed clean.

Title: Free WCAG 2.2 toolkit — 15 client-side tools + a Top 50 websites audit report

  • URL Scanner (axe-core powered)
  • Color Contrast Checker (WCAG AA/AAA + APCA)
  • Color Blindness Simulator (8 types, severity slider, Daltonize)
  • ARIA Role & Attribute Generator
  • WCAG 2.2 Compliance Checklist

  • AI Alt Text Generator
  • Heading Analyzer, Form Label Checker, Link Text Checker, Focus Order Checker, HTML Scanner, PDF Checker, Alt Text Checker, Accessibility Monitor

As part of the launch, I ran axe-core WCAG 2.2 scans against 52 top websites. Key findings:

  • 70 violations across 48 sites
  • 95.7% critical/serious severity
  • Most common: color-contrast (9 sites), image-alt (6 sites), link-name (6 sites)
  • Worst: WebMD (7), Zoom (6), AliExpress (5), Spotify (5)
  • 18 sites passed clean (Google, Wikipedia, BBC, Microsoft, GitHub, Stripe...)

Note: automated tools catch ~30-40% of issues. Manual testing is always needed. But this gives a useful baseline.

Title: Launched an accessibility toolkit — 15 tools, zero server costs, plus a research report

Body:

Just launched A11yKit — 15 free accessibility tools that run entirely in the browser. Zero server-side processing means zero hosting costs beyond static file serving.

Built with Next.js + axe-core. Everything is client-side: contrast checking, color blind simulation, ARIA generation, WCAG checklist, URL scanning, and more.

To get some attention, I also scanned 52 of the world's top websites with axe-core and published a report. 70 violations found. WebMD was the worst with 7. 18 sites passed clean.

The report is already getting some traction — it turns out "Top 50 websites accessibility audit" is link bait that actually works.
