Would you be open to creating a PS3 related repo?

I don't know anything about the PS3, nor do I own one. I have other consoles in the works, so I'll revisit this at a later time.

Hello, @Plailect.
I have a lot of experience modding almost all consoles.
I'm interested in making guides for ps3 and ps4. Please make the respective repositories, so I can start making them

I'm also willing to contribute to a ps3 guide but the official bgtoolset (used to flash a custom firmware) is currently down and many alternatives are based on a stripped down backup and potentially unsafe

I would also be willing to contribute as well. It would be great to have a comprehensive resource to point others to that isn't a psx-place forum post.

Ever since this issue was created, the ownership of the hacks.guide domain was transferred to Nintendo Homebrew on Discord. (technically it's owned by me). Of course, our expertise is mainly with Nintendo consoles. The Vita guide was grandfathered in and is more or less controlled by someone else.

Personally I am not strictly opposed to opening up subdomains to other communities but it's not something we have thought much about.

There are quite a few issues with putting PS3 on the hacks.guide domain which honestly I feel are a bit of a dealbreaker.

Unlike the Nintendo homebrew scene, the PS3 homebrew scene doesn't shy away from developing homebrew with the official SDK. Even popular homebrew like RetroArch on PS3 is built with a leaked SDK (source). This is problematic as the official SDK was never officially distributed except to licensed developers under NDA, meaning grabbing any "public" copy of it is piracy.

On top of that, custom firmware on PS3 is distributed as a complete PUP file, which isn't just patches (legally fine), but instead a complete redistribution of Sony-copyrighted firmware files with patches applied. With retail systems, that's arguably "okay" since Sony distributes PUPs directly, but it gets worse when you consider DEX/PEX/P-DEX firmwares. Those include files from devkit unit firmware, which was only ever officially distributed to licensed developers under NDA. Again, this makes downloading any PS3 CFW an act of piracy as well.

Overall, adding PS3 to the hacks.guide page opens up a lot more legal risk, leading to a bigger chance of a takedown request being sent to the hacks.guide registrar. If this were to happen, it wouldn't just affect the PS3 subdomain, but all domains on hacks.guide.

From my understanding, hacks.guide doesn't cover home brew outside that necessary for hacking said device. Unless I'm wrong about that, your point about RetroArch and other Homebrew pointless

I can definitely understand the other points though. It could be mitigated by pointing to CEX for CFW

What about HFW though? As far as I'm aware HFW doesn't use any DEX code.

Would it be absolved if we were to direct the user to find it themselves with a disclaimer that hacks.guide bears no responsibility like it does for everything else?
