[BUG] Can't sign out of Amazon

Describe the bug

After logging in to my Amazon account and syncing my highlights, I would like to sign out as suggested in the Security section of Git Hub. I click the Sign Out button in the settings but it does not work.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behaviour:

1. Log into Amazon Account (amazon.fr)
2. Sync highlights
3. Click Sign Out in plugin settings

Having the same issue, looks like the method for sign out that this plugin uses needs to be updated as the kindle site may have changed.

From what I can tell, it points to https://read.amazon.com and tries to find the link for the sign out button on the page with the id #settings-link-logout. It can't find it in the dom object it gets back so it throws this error.

Looks like the last time this plugin was updated was over a year ago, not sure if we will see a fix from the developer any time soon.

Honestly, I haven't even been able to get any of the Amazon Cloud sync functionality working, only able to use it via manual file upload for now.

I hope this and other issues get fixed since it's a great plugin.

Has anyone found a workaround, other than deleting the plugin from Obsidian?

seems it won't then allow you the opportunity to sign in when the plugin has been removed, obsidian closed, and then re-added.

Hey everyone. I've just been made aware of this thread today.

It sounds like as you said the method for parsing logout has changed.

Suggested workaround: Open Obsidian dev tools, and clear the app's cookies and sessions. Obsidian is essentially running in a Google Chrome browser. So any instructions online for the latter would work for you.

I am going on extended leave from my job in September so will aim to be active on this plugin's development again then.

As @hadynz has suggested, you should be able to open the Obsidian developer tools and clear the cookies and sessions. This is what I followed last year. I've had the plugin disabled since then. The last update to the plugin looks to be two years ago now. Hopefully there will be a correction made soon. It's a great plugin for Obsidian.

In Obsidian, go to View and then you should be able to see a link called Toggle Developer Tools. Click Toggle Developer Tools and you'll be presented with a new pane with a lot of information. You'll most likely want to click the caret for Session Storage, right click app://obsidian.md, and select "clear". I currently do not have any cookies stored in Obsidian but you should be able to repeat the same process for cookies.

After clearing sessions and cookies, you can re-check the Kindle plugin and see if the account is still logged in.

Neither of these options seemed to work for me. I guess I'll just have to delete the plugin for now.

Hi, I had the same issue just now, I cleared cache the way they told you before, going into: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming
But for cookies, go into your browser and search there. For Chrome : Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies > See all site data and permissions > Search Obsidian

While the plugin may still show the "sign out" option, if you try to sync, it will ask you again for your Amazon log-in info, so I guess that's good enough)? hope it helps!

Sorry to necro this, but I need those highlights .... I have cleared the cache and cookies in app deleted aöll cookies cache and browsing data in chrome .... deleted the plugin ... but I do not get to re-log in to amazon

I'll re-try on my Kindle tonight. Haven't tried it out in awhile.

I looked into this recently. The change in DOM is likely due to Amazon's efforts to stop crawlers. I'm not sure if this is something that can be worked around with cheerio.

I was able to avoid the error by modifying the plugin to set and clear session partitions (so log out works, but no modal is displayed).
