I am reading the installation instructions and I am wondering if PG-Strom works on Ubuntu

In particular the below sections imply that pg_strom only works with Red Hat, Fedora or Rocky Linux

  • EPEL(Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux)
  • Red Hat CodeReady Linux Builder
  • MOFED Driver Installation

Are these packages optional or mandatory to correctly install PG-Strom?

Not correct. It is mainly developed on RHEL or its clone environment, but it should not depend on something special in RHEL.
You can install CUDA / MODED module for ubuntu linux, and we provide .deb package of heterodb-extra (that is necessary for GPU-Direct SQL and others).
Once you could install these packages, I think source installation will work on Ubuntu also.

Thank You! I wanted check in advance, that way I didn't spend time trying to get everything working, only to realize I had to change my OS, and I didn't see that at the end.
