Running ./configure ends with an error error: Something went wrong bootstrapping makefile fragments for automatic dependency tracking.

Hi,

Thanks for your report. You failed mentioning your o.s., compiler name, their versions as well as those of your autoconf and automake.

Are you using the main branch? I'd advise you to go to the html5 branch instead. I'm missing some work to complete the chardet detection and improve the configure to skip that library. That branch does configures and compiles on the latest debian.
