Start with small features on Server Browser

Hi,

I was looking at the current Server Browser UI and while it is quite powerful, it feels a bit heavy as an initial starting point, especially when you just want to get connected quickly.

I tried setting up the buttons and loading a list of recently joined servers, which I am already storing locally:

Thought / idea

Why start with a full server browser right away?

It might be nice to start smaller, for example:

• Direct Connect (IP or address input)
• A simple list of recently joined servers

This could help lower the initial complexity, make the first experience smoother, and still allow the UI to grow into a more advanced browser later on.

Just thinking out loud here, not saying the current approach is wrong. Curious how others feel about this direction.

You are free to discuss and make PRs as much as you would like. I am mostly hands off of this at the moment due to me being taken up on more important, actively used projects. This project was something I had been researching for the first 6 months or so of me getting into S1 modding, and I only got as far as a working basic prototype, before my time was taken up by other projects. I still come back to this when I have the time, as you can see I did merge your existing 2 PRs 😃

Like @itsNeutron there are lots of core issues at the moment. Most of them being not so difficult to fix if you know what you are doing, more so just tedious processes of troubleshooting and fixing that I do not currently have the time for. I do have a trello board for this, however it has not really been updated in months, so it is behind on both a few recent commits, as well as a couple of game updates, which broke multiple parts of the server/client system, which is why there are "core issues". If you want to discuss heavily, I recommend coming to the modding discord, but you are still free to do light discussion on the repo, and PRs, as you have been 😄

I do think you bring up some great points, some of which I have thought about in the past. For example, off the bat Region seems redundant/non-applicable to me now. Keeping this post open for any further discussion directly related to the Server Browser UI 😄

Il2Cpp support is not yet finished. The project was mono only originally, and i've been working on fixing the core issues and getting everything working, before moving to Il2Cpp support. You also have to compile from source to get anything remotely working currently, hence why the version says "beta" in it at the moment. I won't be providing much support until an official release is made, beyond the old broken ones.

I usually do not accept friend requests on discord unless I know them. Feel free to come to the modding discord where we could have a further chat about it. As I mentioned before there is still lots of work to do on code cleanup and other things that I have been focusing on before Il2Cpp support, which could be why you ran into the issues you described. You also did a few things incorrectly from quickly looking over your changes, like using reflection to access fields. This would typically fail on Il2Cpp, since fields are usually forwarded to properties by Il2CppInterop/Il2CppAssemblyGenerator. Also this is steering extremely off-topic from this specific issue.
