If the map does disappear after a smaller version has been loaded for the fraction of a second, press key D to switch dark mode to reload the image. Sometimes this helps. Sometimes not.

Uploaded a jpg to the IA yesterday of 10500 x 7350 pixels: https://archive.org/details/lametrobikemap
Then tried the IIIF service which seemed to work well right away but then started throwing the following errors for tile fetches:

500 Internal Server Error
Java heap space
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Thanks for these reports, @mprove, @sammeltassen, @glenrobson, and @jonasengelmann. This server has been allocated more memory, among other things, and that seems to have if not resolved the issue, at least made it less frequent, insofar as I can no longer replicate the problem with the above URLs.

Having said that, it would be great to hear if people do continue to experience 500 Internal Server Error. Java heap space. So please report any instances of that in this thread, along with the relevant URL.
