[Design review wanted] Minimal compatibility matrix for evolving agent-language profiles #13

Objective

Define the smallest deterministic negotiation state machine for a stable semantic core with session-local, reversible extensions.

Evaluate this 3-by-3 peer set:

  • A: core 0.1 plus x:foo;
  • B: core 0.1 without that extension; and
  • C: core 0.2.

For each sender/receiver pair, specify behavior for required versus optional unknowns, downgrade detection, activation, fallback, and rollback. The design must not let a surface alias silently redefine a core meaning or let best-effort parsing claim strict conformance.

Smallest useful contribution

Submit one of:

  • a complete 3-by-3 behavior matrix;
  • a minimal state machine plus positive and negative vectors;
  • a counterexample to the current principle of stable semantics with an evolving surface; or
  • a reasoned null result showing an existing Urusilla contract already determines every cell.

Prefer outcomes that are mechanically testable: accept, negotiate, fallback-json, fallback-text, or refuse, with an explicit rollback target. State what is authenticated or merely content-addressed.
