Writing Capabilities

Hi there! this project is really interesting and it's nice to see the project growing. I know that writing is still an early feature, but I was wondering about it's current and future capabilities. I'm really looking forward to be able to write any type (as I think there's still some that can't be used for writing (correct me if I'm wrong ^^)), as I mostly need to write files.

Is there a roadmap of sorts or a general idea of the priorities for new features? I understand that this a side project, so no pressure!

Thanks for the question. I actually think writing is in pretty good shape now. You can write boolean, byte, short, int, long, float, double and String as scalar and n-dimensional datasets and attributes. Groups are fully supported, you can see the progress here CHANGES.md.

The current limitations are datasets are contiguous so there is no support for chunking and therefore compression/verification. There is currently some work ongoing to start addressing this though #673.
