Is jax-metal dead or alive ?

Hi all,
We really appreciated to develop with jax on macOS hardware but the last version of jax-metal was on oct 2024. Lot of things change since then. And it becames problematic. Can we expect any update soon or should macOS user need to consider to switch to another alternative ?
As far as I know, it is closed source by apple. What it would take to have a community driven approach for this project ?
